After Frodo and Spike died, we decided to let Nicolas have a new hamster. We took him to the pet store just to observe, take notes and decide later if that is what needed to be done. Surprisingly enough, we were in luck! There they were, the tiny little rodents and he wanted to choose one right away. The hard part about choosing a hamster is that you need to interact with them to see their personalities and social awareness to humans. Hamster are biters, they have these front teeth that are like samurai blades, they will pierce skin and draw blook. Ask us, we have been there and there is nothing that can be done except wear garden gloves. When you hamsters as pets, you need to handle them or their wild side will take over and they become feral unless you get lucky and get one that has a heart of gold and one that is easy and eager to interact with you and your children. Baby Cassie is one of those, Jason noticed that right away because out of the wild bunch, she was the only one who was not afraid to approach his hand and climb on it for petting. Whereas the others kept to themselves and wanted nothing to do with the visitors.
Nicolas and Baby Cassie are the best of buddies and we have discovered that she is very athletic and relentless in her purseue of interaction with her humans.
